Excerpted from the May 20, 2001 Maine Sunday Telegram review "A Symbol Abstractly Explored" by Philip Isaacson:

I have seen Harold Garde's "Kimono" at the Farnsworth three times.... When I sit in the galleries and see that parade of bodiless forms, it is as though the generational family of monks is passing before me in spirit form. The Kimono shape and not the colors and random markings gently presides. The perfection of that shape, however casual Garde's reference to it may be--and in some of the images it is very casual indeed--its achievment in grace and harmony filters from image to image and it is that combining that creates the occasion and gives it an otherworldly quality. I have no reason to suppose that these works were created for this show, but if they had been it would have been a brilliant invention. This is an unusal event and it's a pleasure to acknowledge it.
